A suspect was arrested with more than 3,200 kgs of fish allegedly caught using explosives during a joint operation by the Navy and the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in the Puthumathalan coastal area of Mullaitivu.
The operation was conducted on Monday (7) by personnel attached to Sri Lanka Naval Ship ‘Gotabhaya’ of the Eastern Naval Command, together with officers from the Mullaitivu District Office of the Department.
During the operation, authorities inspected a suspicious location where a large quantity of fish had been stored.
More than 3,200 kilogrammes of fish allegedly caught using explosives were recovered from the location, while a 38-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the incident.
The suspect, a resident of Puthukkudiyiruppu, and the seized stock of fish were handed over to the Mullaitivu District Office of the Department for further action.
