Former Royal boxing captain Ikraam Ousman dies

25 Mar 2025

Ex-Royal College boxing captain Ikraam Ousman passed away suddenly in Dubai, UAE aged 61, last week.

His death leaves a deep void in the Sri Lankan boxing community and among his family, relatives and friends alike.

A proud product of Royal, Ikraam was a member of the 1979 Stubbs Shield team and won his weight class twice in the coveted event.

He also claimed victory at the T.B. Jayah Novices Meet before leading Royal as captain in 1982.

It is said that boxing had run in his veins – his younger brothers, Allaam and the late Hishaam Ousman, also represented Royal College in the sport.

Beyond the ring, Allaam Ousman, subsequently emerged as a respected and much-sought-after sports journalist both in Sri Lanka and overseas.

Ikraam’s Janaza was held in Dubai on 20 March, with a large gathering of family and friends coming together to bid him a final farewell.
