A fraudulent message is circulating on social media platforms falsely claiming to offer prizes on behalf of a domestic bank, the Police Department warned last weekend.

The Police stated that the message is part of a dangerous online scam designed to deceive the public and gain access to their bank account details and is linked to identity theft.

It has been reported that the scam is designed to steal personal information and even tamper with the software on mobile phones. Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team Chief Information Security Officer Nirosh Ananda said that the organisation has received numerous complaints regarding this issue.

He also warned that the individuals who conduct banking activities via mobile phones should be especially cautious of such fraudulent messages.
