The vehicles used by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD), especially during the Presidential Election campaign, have been in the spotlight and they continue to be the focus given the new Government’s strict policies over the use of official vehicles.

There were many social media posts during the Presidential Election campaign on the luxury vehicles used by AKD for transportation, which the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP)-led National People’s Power (NPP) maintained had been given by party supporters during the campaign period.

After assuming office, President AKD has been assigned a bulletproof vehicle to ensure security.

However, it is learnt that the vehicle currently used by AKD is not being pumped fuel by the State and the fuel bill is being footed by an external source.

It is also learnt that the JVP/NPP had decided to foot President AKD’s fuel bills since the vehicle was used by him sometimes for political work.
