The Police have informed that Police officers addicted to drugs can seek Departmental help for rehabilitation. Speaking to The Daily Morning, Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police and attorney F.U. Wootler said that if a Departmental officer is found guilty of being a drug addict, the immediate action taken will be suspension, and then, with the consent of the victim, the Government will direct them to the nearest rehabilitation centre. He detailed that the Police have not executed a separate rehabilitation programme for Police victims yet, and that if it is needed, the Inspector General of Police will make arrangements to initiate a programme for them.
He added that those who are proven guilty of having connections with drug traffickers and other such offences related to drugs will also face immediate suspension and will be produced before a court of law.
"No matter what the rank he/she holds in the Police, if any Police officer is found guilty of being a drug addict or engaged in drug trafficking or any other related offences, disciplinary actions will be taken and they will be dealt with in a court of law," he added.
A recent survey conducted by the Police Narcotics Bureau has found that a significant number of Police officers and security forces personnel are addicted to drugs. The survey also found that family members of some Police and security forces personnel are involved in drug use, with certain families reportedly linked to drug trafficking networks.
