Twelve passengers were injured after a train derailed between Wanawasala and Hunupitiya this morning (16), Police said.

The train was travelling from Polgahawela towards Colombo when one carriage overturned on the track.

Police Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler said the injured were admitted to nearby private hospitals, while one person was transferred to Colombo National Hospital.

The train had departed Polgahawela at 3.25 a.m. and was heading towards Kalutara South at the time of the incident.
