Sri Lanka has approved a two-year Road Protection Action Plan (2025–2026) to tackle the rising number of road accidents and fatalities.

Between 2020 and 2024, 118,697 accidents claimed 12,322 lives.

The plan, approved by the Cabinet, focuses on improving road infrastructure, enforcing vehicle regulations, and addressing risks at unprotected railway crossings.
