Maldives and Sri Lanka strengthen economic ties amid 60 years of diplomacy

Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the growing economic partnership between Maldives and Sri Lanka, calling for deeper collaboration across modern sectors such as tourism, digital technology, and security.


Speaking at a state dinner in honour of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Kurumba Hotel, President Muizzu celebrated 60 years of diplomatic ties between the two island nations. He said the relationship had matured from trade in dried fish to dynamic cooperation in education, health, and emerging industries.


President Muizzu expressed confidence that recent high-level discussions would unlock new opportunities and strengthen regional prosperity. He also reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to working closely with Sri Lanka to promote peace and sustainable development across the Indian Ocean.


The visit, hailed as a strategic milestone, is expected to yield concrete initiatives in trade and investment, reinforcing the shared vision of economic integration and mutual progress.
