Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe announced his readiness to offer his ministerial post to Arjuna Ranatunga.
Speaking to media yesterday (6), Ranasinghe clarified that the President's approval is not required for the appointment of an interim committee to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). He claimed that he made this decision in line with the authority granted to him.
Ranasinghe went on to affirm that he would continue to fulfill his duties as Sports Minister until he remains in office.
He highlighted his commitment to the country and mentioned that the President Wickremesinghe has the authority to remove him if he chooses to do so.
It is worth noting that, President Ranil Wickremesinghe was not informed about the Sports Minister's decision to appoint this interim committee, its composition, or the suspension of the previous board.
According to sources, the President learned of this development through media reports.
Consequently, the matter was discussed during a Cabinet meeting, leading to the formation of a four-member cabinet sub-committee to investigate the Sports Minister's actions.
This committee is chaired by Minister Ali Sabry and includes Ministers Tiran Alles, Manusha Nanayakkara, and Kanchana Wijesekera.
