A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed to develop infrastructure to store, regasify and supply liquified natural gas (LNG) for the Sobadhanavi Combined Cycle Power Plant at Kerawalapitiya.
It was signed between Sri Lanka’s LTL Holdings Limited and India’s Petronet LNG Limited, under the patronage of the Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara and the Deputy High Commissioner (DHC) of India in Sri Lanka Satyanjal Pandey.
Once commissioned, this power plant would be Sri Lanka’s largest independent power producer (IPP) and the first power plant to operate with LNG, allowing the country to transition to sustainable forms of power generation.
