Nisal Gamage with a superb unbeaten 103 and Chamith Aravinda with a fine 52 steered Thurstan Millennium Legends to a seven-wicket win over Isipathana Millennium Legends, in their second annual Millennium Legends Cricket encounter played at Thurstan College grounds recently.
Chasing 211 to win, Thurtan Millennium Legends won with 19 balls to spare on the back of Gamage and Aravinda’s heroics as the duo raised a 140-run stand for the first wicket.
Gamage’s knock which came off 105 deliveries was studded with nine fours and three sixes while Aravinda’s innings which came off 55 balls was laced with six boundaries as they won in a canter.
Earlier Aravinda and Rakitha Perera shared six wickets between them for 64 runs as Isipathana Millennium Legends taking first lease of the wicket were restricted to 211/8 in 35 overs.
For Isipathana Nuwan Hettiarachchi (40) and Panduka Kumararatne (39) were the main scorers as they struggled to post a match-winning total on the board.
Rakitha Perera of Thurstan Millennium Legends was named as the Best Bowler.
The invitees as the chief guest and Guest of Honour for the second annual Millennium Legends Cricket encounter were Hemal Botheju and Kamal Mahendra, who were both former outstanding cricketers of Thurstan College.
