The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SL CERT) said that reports of financial fraud committed by various individuals claiming to sell goods online have increased. The Chief Information Security Engineer at CERT, Nirosh Ananda stated that before ordering goods online, the public should obtain accurate and reliable information about the relevant organisation. Ananda further noted that complaints have also been received over the past few days regarding fraud taking place in relation to providing financial assistance to people affected by disasters. Therefore, the public has been urged to remain vigilant when purchasing and selling goods online.
