Prime Minister (PM) Harini Amarasuriya stressed the need to prioritise underprivileged schools when allocating funds for infrastructure development under Sri Lanka’s new education reforms.

Speaking at a high-level discussion with governors and provincial secretaries at Temple Trees, she underscored that all reform decisions must place students’ well-being at the core.

As both Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Amarasuriya highlighted the importance of provincial cooperation in ensuring reforms align with national policy while maintaining consistency across the education system.

She noted that the reform process faces two main challenges: transforming outdated structures and maintaining continuity during the transition period.

Amarasuriya also called for greater unity in policymaking, especially as schools function under provincial jurisdiction, reinforcing that quality education must reach every child, regardless of location.
