A coir mill in the Dambagalla area of Monaragala was gutted by a fire yesterday (7), with emergency crews and local residents working together to bring the blaze under control.

The fire spread rapidly across the factory premises, prompting the deployment of Monaragala Fire Brigade personnel, Police officers and residents of the area to contain the flames.

The fire also caused damage to a lorry parked near the factory.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Dambagalla Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
