Shell launches first branded fuel station in Sri Lanka with RM Parks partnership

26 Feb 2025

Shell has marked its return to the Sri Lankan fuel retail market with the launch of its first branded fuel station at B.S. Cooray Filling Station, Ambathale. This milestone follows a strategic partnership between Shell Brands International AG and RM Parks (Private) Limited, backed by a product supply agreement signed in March 2024.

RM Parks (Private) Limited, a collaboration between Tristar Group and RM Parks Inc., has been awarded a contract by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Petroleum and Energy to operate 150 retail fuel stations for an initial 20-year period. This rebranding initiative is expected to transform Sri Lanka’s fuel retail landscape by leveraging RM Parks’ distribution expertise and Tristar’s logistics capabilities.

Eugene Mayne, Group CEO of Tristar, commented, “This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s energy sector, bringing together RM Parks’ extensive experience in fuel distribution and Tristar’s strong logistics and supply chain capabilities. We aim to introduce global best practices, superior service standards, and innovative energy solutions to benefit Sri Lankan consumers.”

The launch of Shell-branded stations is expected to boost fuel availability and enhance customer service standards across Sri Lanka. Jason Callison, President of RM Parks Inc., emphasized Shell’s legacy, stating, “For over a century, Shell has been synonymous with excellence, trust, and innovation. We are excited to bring this legacy to Sri Lanka and partner in the country’s future growth.”

Julie Chung, U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, praised the partnership’s economic impact, saying, “This initiative will create jobs, stabilize fuel availability, and support Sri Lanka’s economic growth and stability.”

This launch is part of a broader plan to expand Shell’s presence across Sri Lanka, reinforcing its role in the country’s energy sector.

As Shell and RM Parks continue their rollout, Sri Lankan consumers can expect a new standard of fuel retailing, combining quality products with enhanced service experiences.
