President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the government’s objective is to reduce fuel consumption, noting that fuel price revisions are being made in line with that policy.
He made these remarks while attending the Nuwara Eliya District Special Coordinating Committee meeting.
The President stated that global fuel price increases have raised the cost of diesel to around Rs. 720 per litre in Sri Lanka.
He also noted that the government is currently providing a subsidy of about Rs. 100 per litre, with diesel sold to the public at Rs. 392 per litre, while warning that the current system is financially unsustainable.
