Discussions were held on establishing a technology research and development institution in Sri Lanka to boost international academic collaboration and innovation.

The meeting took place at the Parliamentary Complex on January 7, with Prime Minister(PM) Harini Amarasuriya, Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne, and representatives from the University of Oulu (Finland) and IIT Madras (India).

The talks focused on enhancing Sri Lanka’s digital research ecosystem, positioning the country as a regional hub for next-generation technologies, and exploring global partnerships.

Presentations included the University of Oulu’s 6G Flagship Programme and IIT Madras’ innovation ecosystem.
