Backstage at London Fashion Week, the spotlight has shifted. Heavy makeup is no longer the defining feature; instead, the focus is on healthy, radiant skin that allows makeup to enhance rather than dominate. At the AADNEVIK show, models’ complexions were prepped with turmeric infused treatments, creating a natural, luminous glow that stood out even before any brushes touched their faces.
At the heart of this glow was turmeric, an ingredient deeply rooted in South Asian skincare traditions. Known for its ability to calm inflammation, reduce redness, and protect against environmental stress, turmeric has been used for centuries as part of beauty rituals passed down through generations.
On the LFW runway, the golden-yellow masks didn’t just create a striking visual, they visibly brightened and soothed the skin, providing the perfect canvas for makeup.
This modern interpretation of traditional skincare came from Beauty by Rosh, a brand that seamlessly blends South Asian heritage with science-backed formulations. The Pep Talk Mask, enriched with turmeric, AHA and BHA acids, Coenzyme Q10, and Vitamin E, works to exfoliate, unclog pores, smooth texture, and calm sensitive skin all without irritation.
The routine was completed with a serum and moisturiser designed to prime the skin for flawless makeup application, reinforcing the idea that less is more when it comes to runway beauty.
Behind the brand is Rosh Kumarasinghe, a South Asian entrepreneur whose journey and background shape its philosophy. Drawing inspiration from traditional beauty practices she was exposed to growing up, Rosh has built a brand that honours those rituals while elevating them through modern science.
Her approach reflects a broader shift in the beauty industry, one that embraces authenticity, diversity, and products designed for a wide range of skin tones. While women of color and South Asian professionals have long contributed to backstage teams at global fashion shows, this moment marked a significant milestone.
For the first time, a South Asian beauty entrepreneur’s brand was officially featured and used at main schedule shows at London Fashion Week. It represents not only progress in representation within the global beauty industry, but also a proud moment for Sri Lanka on an international stage.
For beauty enthusiasts and professionals alike, the takeaway is clear: skin preparation is just as important as makeup itself. Ingredients like turmeric, combined with thoughtful skincare rituals, are redefining runway beauty prioritising health, glow, and a naturally radiant canvas.
