Bus fares will not be reduced despite the Rs. 12 cut in auto diesel prices, Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne announced.
Speaking at a media briefing, he said the existing fare formula does not permit revisions unless fuel costs drop significantly, adding that diesel must fall by Rs. 25–30 to justify a reduction.
Wijeratne emphasised that the July annual review remains the appropriate time for any fare adjustment.
He also pointed out that rising operational costs, beyond just fuel, continue to burden the industry.
Fuel prices were revised by both CPC and LIOC from midnight on 30 April.
