A protest organised by the School Development Officers’ Association began on 02 February in front of the Presidential Secretariat.

The association noted that the hunger strike outside the Secretariat has entered its eighth day, demanding absorption into the permanent Teacher Service.

Officers stated they are already performing teaching duties and that the protest has been escalated to a fast-unto-death.

The association noted that a discussion with the President is scheduled for February 3, citing delays in resolving their demands.

Meanwhile, the Union of Education Graduates launched a separate protest at the Ministry of Education in Battaramulla, calling for faster recruitment of B.Ed. graduates.
