Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne has ordered a probe into an incident where an inquiry that was held inside a Police station had been videoed on a mobile phone and uploaded on social media.
The incident was reported at the Veyangoda Police Station and the probe is to be carried out on the Veyangoda Police Officer-In-Charge (OIC).
The Police had said that the privacy of individuals had been violated when inquiries conducted within a Police station had been captured on video and uploaded on social media in this manner.
Acting Police Spokesperson DIG Ruwan Gunasekera had told the media last week that directives issued by the IGP on previous occasions had clearly stated that individuals should not be permitted to video incidents within Police stations.
The Spokesperson had added that such actions should pose an obstacle to legal processes being carried out relating to certain incidents.
