The Minister of Environment announced a new public hotline, 1995, will be functional from 3 November for reporting any damage to Sri Lanka’s forest system or environment.

The unit’s objective is to enhance conservation operations and suppress forest-related crimes. 

Information received will be used by security forces and officers of the Department of Wildlife Conservation to carry out immediate operations.

Data will be centrally collected and analysed to identify areas where forest crimes are prevalent, enabling the development of prompt, targeted strategies against such activities.
