A train operating from Rambukkana to Panadura has derailed, the Sri Lanka Railways said.

Superintendent of Train Operations Asanka Samarasinghe said the derailment occurred while the train was in service.

He said train services are not expected to be disrupted.

Railway authorities have begun work to re-rail the affected train.
