The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka said its recent social media post was a routine notice providing guidance to American travellers in the country.
In a statement, the Embassy said the message reminded U.S. citizens about visa extension procedures issued by the Government of Sri Lanka and explained how the Embassy could assist with matters such as visa expirations or flight cancellations.
It further clarified that the post should not be interpreted as a U.S. State Department travel advisory, which is issued through a separate formal system by the U.S. Department of State.
