Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka has stated that Sri Lanka’s fuel import costs have increased by approximately 50% this year compared to 2025, amid rising global crude oil prices and the ongoing Middle East conflict.
He made the remarks yesterday (2), explaining that the increase in global prices had led to the recent domestic fuel price revision.
The Minister also stated that the Government had allocated Rs. 57 billion for fuel subsidies but could not provide further substantial relief due to the higher import costs.
