Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 millimetres is expected in several parts of the country today (4), with showers or thundershowers likely after 2.00 p.m., according to the Department of Meteorology.

Heavy rainfall is expected in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces, and Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts.

Several spells of showers are also forecast for the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle and Matara districts.

The public has been urged to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
