The final rites of the late Kalaa Suri Latha Walpola, known as the "Nightingale of Sri Lanka," will be held with full state honors on 31 December, 2025.

The legendary playback singer passed away on 27 December at the age of 91. 

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the state funeral to honor her eight-decade-long contribution to Sinhala cinema and music.

Her remains will lie at the Independence Memorial Hall on December 31 until 2:00 p.m.

The cremation will take place at the Borella Public Cemetery (Kanatte) later that evening.

Known as Helaye Geetha Kokilaviya, Latha Walpola recorded over 6,700 songs and provided the voice for nearly 600 films, leaving an unmatched legacy in the nation's arts.
