  • Insists her past predictions have come true

Former sprint queen Susanthika Jayasinghe, who has returned to the country for a short visit, says that everything she had predicted in the past about the future of sports in Sri Lanka has become a reality.

However, she declined to shed further light on her statement, insisting that there was nothing more to say.

Jayasinghe, 50, the Silver medallist at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, stated that all she had to reveal of the local sports arena she had done so over a decade ago, insisting that the status quo had not changed even under the incumbent Government.

The former ace sprinter, who courted controversy more often than not during her sprint career, which ended in 2009, politely declined a request for an interview extended by The Sunday Morning Sports.

This was after she was spotted at a reception held at the BRC clubhouse following the recent election victory of the new President of Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) Bimal Wijayasinghe.

Wijayasinghe overcame the challenge of former President of the SLA and Olympian Sunil Gunawardena at the governing body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Sports Ministry premises on Thursday (12).

Jayasinghe is currently based in Melbourne, Australia with her two children, having made the move to prioritise their education and future. She had in the past expressed her frustration with the country’s sports authorities and the lack of support.
