DFCC Bank’s Athletics Team secured 15 medals, including five gold, two silver and eight bronze, at the 41st Annual Mercantile Athletics Championships 2026, held from August 21 to 23 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium.

The three-day championship brought together nearly 1,800 athletes representing 46 companies from Sri Lanka’s mercantile sector. The competition featured a range of track and field events, including sprinting, jumping, throwing, race walking and relay events.

Chanidu Senash was among DFCC Bank’s leading performers, winning two gold medals in the Novices Men’s category. He finished first in both the 110m Hurdles and Triple Jump, while placing fifth in the Long Jump.

Ruwan Madushanka added two gold medals to the Bank’s tally in the Men’s 35+ category, securing first place in the 400m and 1,500m Race Walk. He also won a bronze medal in the 400m Hurdles.

Sahan Rodrigo secured gold in the Men’s 40+ High Jump and also won bronze in Shot Put.

In the Women’s 30+ category, Kalpani Wasalage won two silver medals in Discus Throw and Javelin Throw. She also finished fourth in Shot Put.

Several DFCC Bank athletes recorded bronze-medal finishes. Geemali Athukorala won bronze in both Javelin Throw and Shot Put in the Women’s 30+ category, while Nirasha Madakumbura secured bronze medals in Hammer Throw and Shot Put in the Novices Women’s category.

Zamri Hayauddin won bronze in the Men’s 30+ Triple Jump, while Dumith Samarathunga secured bronze in the Men’s 30+ Javelin Throw.

Beyond the medal-winning performances, other members of the DFCC Bank athletics team recorded notable placements in individual and relay events, contributing to the team’s overall performance at the championship.

The participation of the Bank’s athletes covered several disciplines, including sprinting, jumping, throwing, race walking and relay events, with competitors representing the Bank across different age categories.

The results at the 41st Annual Mercantile Athletics Championships highlight the participation of DFCC Bank employees in competitive athletics alongside their professional commitments.
