Three-wheeler operators seek fare increase after fuel price hike

31 May 2026 | BY Staff Writer

The National Joint Three-Wheeler Drivers and Industrial Workers’ Association has proposed increasing the starting fare for metered three-wheelers in Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara to Rs. 130 for the first kilometre.

The association stated that the proposal will be submitted to the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority’s Fare Regulation Committee following the latest fuel price increase.

General Secretary L. Rohana Perera noted that rising fuel, lubricant and spare parts costs have made it difficult for operators to continue under the current fare structure.
