The inauguration of the Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment's ‘public service initiative’ on 9 March in Kurunegala saw Minister Manusha Nanayakkara highlighting the Government's efforts to stabilise the economy and promote gender equality.

In his address, Minister Nanayakkara attributed the country's economic stabilisation to the Government's strategic decision-making, “doing instead of saying”, he claimed, had bolstered the country's financial reserves significantly.

The event also saw the distribution of scholarships to 246 children of foreign workers and school equipment to 364 students, underscoring the government's commitment to supporting education and empowering communities.

Minister Nanayakkara took the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Sri Lanka's Jayanthi Kuruuthumpala, the first Sri Lankan woman to conquer Mount Everest. Highlighting her connection to Kurunegala, he commended her strength and courage, particularly in light of International Women's Day.

Reflecting on the challenges facing the country, Minister Nanayakkara urged the public to draw inspiration from Jayanthi's determination, emphasising the importance of unity and resilience in overcoming obstacles.

Addressing critics, he defended the Government's actions, emphasising the need for practical solutions and collaboration to address the country's economic challenges.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Minister of State for Foreign Employment Jagath Pushpakumara, State Minister for Media Shantha Bandara, and Members of Parliament Samanpriya Herath and Manjula Dissanayake, along with numerous officials from the Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment.

The ceremony concluded with a call for continued efforts to build a prosperous and inclusive society, with a focus on empowering women and fostering economic growth through innovative strategies.
