- Access issues delay inspections in several areas
The Road Development Authority (RDA) stated that it would request additional funds to repair roads and bridges damaged by flooding and landslides only after assessing the full extent of the destruction.
Speaking to The Daily Morning, RDA Director General, K.W. Kandambi said the Authority is currently working with its existing funds, as officers are still unable to reach several affected locations. He said that teams would be deployed to those areas as soon as access is restored.
“Once we can reach the sites, we will assess the damage and request the necessary funds from the Government. We will then decide what action to take based on the nature of the damage. For now, our officers have been assigned across the country and they are taking required measures wherever possible." he added.
Roads and bridges in many parts of the country have been severely damaged due to the heavy rains, floods, and landslides reported over the past few days, leaving several regions inaccessible and disrupting transport. Speaking to the media on an earlier occasion, Kandambi had said that Cyclone Ditwah had made more than 200 major roads impassable and damaged 10 bridges.
