Case against ex-Minister Keheliya and family fixed for trial

The Colombo High Court (HC) today (13) ordered that the case filed by the Bribery Commission against former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and his family members be taken up for hearing on 27 April.


The case concerns allegations of illegally acquiring assets and was heard before High Court Judge Mohamed Mihal.


During today’s proceedings (13th), the court reviewed the case details presented by officials of the Bribery Commission and the defense lawyer, Attorney-at-Law Kanchana Ratwatte.


Following this, the judge fixed the trial to commence on 27 April and ordered that summons be issued to witnesses to appear on that date.


The Bribery Commission has filed indictments against the defendants under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.


The allegations pertain to the illegal acquisition of assets during the period from 13 August, 2020, to 24 June, 2024, while Keheliya Rambukwella served as the Minister of Mass Media, Health, and Environment.


The indictments include Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife Kusum Priyadarshani Epa, daughters Chamithri Jayanika Rambukwella, Chandula Ramali Rambukwella, and Amali Nayanika Rambukwella, as well as son-in-law Isuru Pulasthi Bandara Polgasdeniya.
