The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal to publish the Animal Welfare Bill in the Government Gazette and to subsequently submit it to Parliament for approval.
The Bill was initially prepared to strengthen legal provisions relating to animal welfare. Following a Cabinet decision taken on 29 December of last year, the Secretary to the Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Ministry appointed a special expert committee to review the draft Bill and provide recommendations.
Based on the recommendations submitted by this committee, the Legal Draftsman was instructed at the Cabinet meeting held on 18 May to prepare the final draft of the Bill. Accordingly, the Legal Draftsman has completed the preparation of the Bill, and it has also received clearance from the Attorney General.
