The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued a stern warning to businesses found to be selling bottled drinking water at inflated prices.
According to CAA Chairman Hemanta Samarakoon, legal action will be taken against vendors who violate the regulated price, regardless of whether the water is chilled or sold under a different brand.
Samarakoon stated that businesses, including those approved by tourism boards, are not exempt from the law.
He clarified that selling bottled water above the government-approved Maximum Retail Price (MRP) is illegal and a violation of consumer protection laws.
The CAA will initiate legal proceedings against any non-compliant vendors.
