The People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) has strongly condemned the alleged assault on Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) United National Party (UNP) member Uduwaduge Sandamali.

The incident occurred on Monday (16) while Councillor Sandamali was near her office, according to PAFFREL’s statement.

The election watchdog emphasised that freedom of political expression is protected under the Constitution and warned that such acts threaten democratic values and discourage female political participation.

PAFFREL urged law enforcement authorities to promptly arrest the perpetrators, regardless of their affiliations, and to ensure legal action is taken.
