Former Hambantota Municipal Council Mayor Eraj Ravindra Fernando has been found dead at a flat in Bambalapitiya, police stated.

According to police, his body was found hanging inside the flat, with the incident suspected to be a suicide.

Fernando was 57 years old at the time of his death.

He was elected Mayor of the Hambantota Municipal Council in 2014 under the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and was re-elected in 2018 with the support of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
