Shanaka, Rajapaksa, Pathirana and Theekshana drafted for CPL

03 Jul 2023

Sri Lanka's white-ball captain, Dasun Shanaka, along with the hard-hitting batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa, spinner Maheesh Theekshana, and young speedster Matheesha Pathirana, have officially signed up for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023. These four Sri Lankan players were selected during the CPL draft held on 30 June.

Rajapaksa and Shanaka will be joining the St. Lucia Kings, while Pathirana and Theekshana were picked by the Trinbago Knight Riders and the Barbados Royals respectively. Despite having previous experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL), this will mark the first time Rajapaksa and Shanaka participate in the CPL. Pathirana will also be making his CPL debut and will have the opportunity to reunite with Dwayne Bravo, the bowling coach of the Chennai Super Kings, who previously worked with the talented Sri Lankan fast bowler during the recently concluded IPL season.

It's worth noting that Theekshana was supposed to play in the previous edition of the CPL but was unable to participate due to his failure to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Sri Lanka Cricket. However, he will finally have the chance to showcase his skills in this year's tournament.

The Caribbean Premier League is scheduled to take place from 17 August to 25 September in the West Indies.
