Eran Wickramaratne, the newly appointed Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Transformation Committee, has announced that the committee’s immediate focus will be a comprehensive overhaul of Sri Lanka Cricket’s governance structure, alongside the implementation of a proposed new constitution.

In a statement issued recently, Wickramaratne explained that he accepted the role following an invitation from the President and Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Sunil Kumara Gamage. He added that the decision to take on this responsibility, effective from yesterday (29), was made after extensive consultations with former cricketers and team captains.

He expressed pride in leading a nine-member committee composed of individuals with high integrity and expertise, including notable figures such as Mr. Sidath Wettimuny, Mr. Roshan Mahanama, Mr. Kumar Sangakkara, and others, bringing together cricketing excellence, corporate management, and legal experience.

In his words: “I am privileged to lead this team, which embodies a rare synthesis of cricketing excellence, corporate management, and legal acumen. Our shared mission is to restore the pride and performance of Sri Lankan cricket. We aim to achieve this through two fundamental pillars:

Improved Governance:Our immediate priority is a total overhaul of the governance framework at SLC. The new constitution will serve as a modern, robust foundation for the sport, ensuring compliance with ICC regulations, transparency, anti-corruption measures, and professionalism. We are committed to fostering a culture of meritocracy and fiscal responsibility to rebuild public trust.

Excellence on the Field:Administrative excellence supports athletic success. We will focus on establishing strong structures, world-class facilities, and incentive models that empower our national teams. Our goal is to enable players to perform at the highest levels and elevate Sri Lanka’s international rankings.

As someone passionate about cricket, both during and after my playing days, I see this as a profound opportunity to contribute to turning around our nation’s cricketing fortunes. I am committed to doing my utmost to deliver lasting and measurable results.”

Wickramaratne also expressed his hope for the support and constructive feedback of Sri Lankan cricket fans, pledging to work diligently to justify their passion with tangible improvements and a brighter future for Sri Lankan cricket.
