• 4 dead, 5 injured

Two persons have been killed while another three individuals have been injured in a shooting incident at Galagoda in Ambalangoda on Monday (11) night.

Police said that two gunmen who arrived on a motorcycle had opened fire at them inside a shop at Galagoda using a Type-56 assault rifle before fleeing the scene. The three wounded persons have been admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital with gunshot injuries. 

This is the second shooting reported within just a few hours on Monday.

It was earlier reported that two persons had been killed and two others were injured following a shooting incident at Pitigala in Elpitiya on Monday evening. Incidentally, this shooting was also reportedly carried out by two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle who had arrived near a shop in the Guruwala area in the Pitigala Police Division and used a T-56 assault rifle. One person was killed on the spot while three others including two females had been admitted to the Gallinda Regional Hospital with injuries. However, another victim had succumbed to injuries. The deceased were identified as Sasith Madhushanka, 32, from Karandeniya and Kavishka Anjana, 28 from Thalgaswewa. The first victim Madhushanka was killed on the spot. Anjana was later transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital where he succumbed to injuries early yesterday (12) morning while receiving treatment.
