The maiden rally of the Sarvajana Balaya alliance was held last Saturday (19) evening in Anuradhapura with participation of a number of its candidates ahead of the upcoming General Elections (GE).
Prior to the rally, leader of the Sarvajana Balaya alliance and Mawbima Janatha Party Leader Dilith Jayaweera visited the Sacred Bo Tree Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and the Ruwanwelisaya temple to get blessings.
The maiden rally, held in Anuradhapura which is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, drew large crowds. Addressing the gathering, Jayaweera called for a change in mindset of Sri Lankans, adding that by infusing entrepreneurship and by building on the country's rich history and culture, Sri Lanka can make great strides. He called the upcoming General Election a ‘golden opportunity’ for Sri Lanka.
“For the first time in Sri Lanka, a President has been elected with a minority vote of around 43%. Today the former Opposition leader is unable to tell you if he wants to run for the post of Prime Minister. So, many who were backing the SJB are also sad that the party doesn’t seem likely to win. Soon, you will face an election. Many of you have abandoned mainstream political parties. The reality is, at the upcoming election, the most suitable party that you can vote for is the Sarvajana Balaya,” Jayaweera said.
