The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to formulate a new National Action Plan for Human-Elephant Conflict Management in Sri Lanka.
The conflict currently affects 19 districts and 134 Divisional Secretariat Divisions, with Sri Lanka’s wild elephant population estimated at around 7,450, according to the 2024 census.
The proposal, submitted by the Minister of Environment, aims to address the growing human-elephant conflict, which continues to result in deaths, injuries, and property damage across the country.
