President to address Parliament today

20 Mar 2026 | BY Staff Writer

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to deliver an address to Parliament today (20), providing an update on the government's ongoing efforts to mitigate the economic fallout caused by the conflict in the Middle East.

During a special media briefing on Tuesday (17), President Dissanayake outlined the government’s strategic plans to ensure the uninterrupted supply of fuel, gas, and electricity, as well as the smooth functioning of the state machinery amid regional tensions.

The government recently implemented a QR code system for fuel distribution to mitigate supply chain disruptions. Currently, fuel is being dispensed under an ‘odd-even’ vehicle number plate system, while gas distribution has also been streamlined to ensure residents and transfers receive adequate supplies.

In his upcoming address to Parliament, the President is expected to detail additional measures taken to minimize the impact on the supply of essential goods, as well as on the import and export sectors.

Parliament is scheduled to convene at 9:30 a.m. to hear the President’s update and discuss strategies for managing the ongoing crisis.
