A National People’s Power(NPP) Pradeshiya Sabha member has been arrested in Mundalama over the alleged verbal abuse and intimidation of a female Grama Niladhari officer.

The suspect represents the Mangalaeliya Division of the Puttalam Pradeshiya Sabha. 

The complaint relates to an incident on 5 December, when a collision occurred between the officer’s motorcycle and a small lorry driven by the member during disaster management duties.

The officer also alleged further harassment by phone on 8 December. 

The suspect surrendered to police and is due before the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court.
