The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to sign a revised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Maldives.

The previous MoU, first signed in 2012 and renewed in 2018, expired in 2023. 

The new agreement aims to expand cooperation through training programmes, staff exchanges, joint research and academic activities, as well as cultural, athletic, and information exchange initiatives.

The proposal was submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Minister of Defence.
