Several investigations are underway into the death of tusker Kawanthissa, with two suspects arrested and remanded until 28 October, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated today (20).

The post-mortem examination has been assigned to the University of Peradeniya’s Veterinary Division under court orders.

Separate investigations are being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), an internal inquiry team and a six-member committee appointed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Several firearms and ammunition were recovered from the first suspect’s residence.

The Minister stated that further action would depend on evidence gathered during the investigations.
