The Constitutional Council (CC) is to meet this week and address the matter of new appointments to the independent commissions, The Sunday Morning learns.
Constitutional Council member and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kabir Hashim told The Sunday Morning yesterday (27) that there had been progress in the appointment process.
“A meeting of the Constitutional Council is scheduled for next week, so these appointments will be taken up then. There have been no meetings lately, which may be why there has been a slight delay. Regardless, progress is being made.”
He added that agreement among the members of the council would ensure the appointments were made in a timely manner.
“The appointments that should be made will be decided at the meeting. Hopefully, if there is consensus, an independent commission can be newly appointed. However, if there is no consensus, then it will be pushed back until the next meeting.”
