The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ alert today (13), warning of severe lightning in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. 

The advisory, issued at noon, will remain in effect until 11:00 p.m. tonight. It indicates that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are expected to occur at some locations in these areas after 2:00 p.m. 

The weather forecast also warns of the possibility of temporary localized strong winds during these thunderstorms. 

The public is urged to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to minimize damage and ensure safety during this period of severe weather activity.
