23 Nov 2025 | By Kusumanjalee Thilakarathna

Today, The Sunday Morning Little Stars shines its spotlight on another bright young achiever from the 2025 World Junior Tourism Ambassador Competition held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Among the talented contestants from around the world, seven-year-old Chameesha Shenas stood out with confidence, charm, and a smile that won everyone’s hearts. He proudly brought home the title of Second Runner-Up – World Junior Tourism Ambassador 2025, along with two more impressive crowns at the grand ceremony.

His school, Subharathi Mahamathya Maha Vidyalaya, Godagama, recently organised a special felicitation ceremony to honour and appreciate Chameesha’s talents and remarkable achievements.

But his talents don’t stop there. He is also a budding actor, already stepping into the world of acting with his first telefilm role and more drama projects on the way.

Chameesha hopes to become a rocket scientist, and he isn’t waiting until he’s grown up to start. He is already attending online sessions and studying fascinating topics such as life in space and exo-geology, showing a passion and curiosity far beyond his years.

Can you tell us about yourself?

My name is Chameesha Shenas. I live in Godagama, Homagama with my family. I have a 17-year-old sister.

I study at Subharathi Mahamathya Maha Vidyalaya, Godagama. I am in Grade 2, and I am seven years old. My class teacher is Kaushalya Teacher and my Principal is Manjula Sir.

I love space and rocket science, and I am learning about them these days. I also play chess at school.

How did you start acting?

I started acting this year, in September. I acted in a telefilm as a kid who lives with his grandparents.

It was very nice to be on set with veterans like Aunty Nethalie Nanayakkara and Uncle Roger Seneviratne. I have also been selected for two more dramas.

Do you like acting?

Yes, I like it a lot. Everyone says I act well. I hope I get more chances because I enjoy acting very much.

How long have you been playing chess?

I have played chess since I was five years old. Charith Sir taught me chess. He is our Coach.

I haven’t gone to many tournaments yet, but I have started attending them. I even went to a tournament outside school.

How was it playing with strangers?

It was okay. I didn’t feel bad or different to be among students from different schools.

Tell me about your experience at the tourism competition.

Aunty Kanchi helped me join it. I won three titles there: Best National Costume – Second Runner-Up, World Tourism Ambassador 2025 – Second Runner-Up, and winner of the Prince World Junior category. I also won a Rising Star award.

How did you feel competing with contestants from other countries?

It was a big pleasure.

What do you want to become when you grow up?

I want to be a rocket scientist. I attend online sessions too to learn about the subject.

Last year, I scored 87.5% and was selected for the Certificate Course in Life in Space and Exo-Geology. It was organised by the Eco Astronomy Hub and the South Asian Astrobiology and Earth Sciences Research Unit.

I am continuing to study with them.

Any other achievements you would like to share?

I became the Avurudu Kumaraya at school twice in a row. It was a lot of fun, and everyone liked me a lot.

Is there anyone you want to thank?

I want to thank my Principal, Mr. J.R. Saman Manjula, for helping me with my studies and other activities.

I also thank Madam I.U. Wickramarachchi and my class teacher Ms. P.V.T. Kaushalya, who teaches me with so much love and helps me with everything. And I thank all the teachers of Subharathi College, Godagama for supporting me.

I also want to thank Miss Kanchi Ekanayaka, who helped me become Prince of Sri Lanka 2025 and guided me in the competitions.

And thank you to Miss Rozanne Diasz, who prepared the stage for me at the Prince World Junior Tourism Ambassador 2025 competition.
