Former Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Nishantha Weerasingha, along with two other former department officials, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
According to the reports, the arrests are linked to a probe into the illegal registration of vehicles that had not received clearance from Sri Lanka Customs. CIABOC revealed that Weerasingha approved the issuance of a number plate for a Toyota jeep that lacked proper customs clearance.
A former Assistant Director of Information Technology and a clerk were also taken into custody for enabling the unauthorized data entry and processing the registration.
All three suspects are to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
